The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze Award is a fun program that offers an opportunity to discover new interests and talents. DofE Bronze award is currently offered to year 9 students and includes fortnightly training sessions, a practice expedition and final expedition. It is a recognised mark of achievement; respected by employers.
At Flegg High Ormiston Academy, we offer up to 35 places for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award. The programme is advised for those who are organised, keen on outdoor pursuits and happy to work in a team.
To achieve the award students will need to attend afterschool sessions on fortnightly basis. These sessions will teach a range of skills including first aid, orienteering, compass and map reading, cooking etc. Students will also need to assign their own activities within three sections: volunteering, skills and fitness. These sections are required to be completed in the students own time and will take place over a six month period. As well as this they need to attend the practice expedition and successfully complete the final expedition in October.
