Union Of Flegg Students

“Working together to allow our student voice to be heard”

“The Union of Flegg  Students follows a model of pupil voice that gives the overwhelming majority of students in the academy the feeling that they have genuine impact on academy life. It promotes the British values of democracy and leadership and encourages active participation to an outstanding level.”

The Student Leadership structure at the Academy follows a University model whereby the  Student Union oversees every aspect of student life. There are opportunities for all students across the academy to get involved in the Union and make a difference. At the head of this Union is the Union Executive Board which is made up of senior year students.

We follow a calendar year cycle, to inspire the future generation of young leaders. Each year the students pick aspects of the academy they would like to develop and have a targeted focus to create a positive school experience for every student each and every day. The Union is divided into sub sections called co-operatives which is led by a member of the senior year who work with students from other year groups.

The 6 cooperatives are –

Community and Culture, Enrichment, Learning Partners, Media, Student Support and College Clash.

The Executive board oversee Community and Culture  – this is about working for the Academy’s Community and wider Community and fundraising.

Enrichment – This led by Reggie, Lexie, Hannah and Edith and this cooperative is about helping set up and run clubs and give feedback on enrichment.

Learning Partners – This is led by Madeline and Lola and currently Learning Partners helping shape the new library and support activities and  events in this space.

Media – This is led by Holly, Olivia, Alfie, Sapphire and Maddie – this group is about sharing what is happening around the school with the students, they are creating content for a new school radio station and for other platforms.

Student Support  – This is led by Eden, Willow, Summer and Vinnie – Student Support help promote National Campaigns around supporting students especially mental health

College Clash – This is led by Amy, Mia, Elysia, Matilda and Bryony – College Clash offers lots of competitions for student to engage in and battle out to see who will win the overall trophy at the end of the year. They are open to all ideas of different types of events such as quizzes, art, sport and STEM.
